For the last 45 years, the Star Wars series has captivated millions of fans worldwide ever since Star Wars: A New Hope was released in May 1977. However, this intergalactic saga has an impact that is beyond entertainment- it has boosted the economy, generating billions of dollars over the course of its run.

The Star Wars’ resources have had a critical financial impact in various regions, with merchandise deals being one of the most popular. Star Wars-related gear has secured itself as a pillar in the realm of authorized merchandise, from activity figures and LEGO sets to shirts and ensembles. It was anticipated that Star Wars merchandise sales would bring in over $5 billion all by themselves in 2019. This number is expected to rise in the coming years due to the release of new movies and television shows.

The Star Wars film franchise also relies heavily on ticket sales. The nine standard Star Wars films have amassed film industry receipts of more than $10 billion, with the latest ones, “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker,” getting more than $1 billion internationally, “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story’’ earning over $1 billion at the box office and “The Mandalorian” being a popular and critically acclaimed television series.

The Star Wars series has had a significant impact on the tourism industry. Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, an amusement park segment that submerges guests in the Star Wars universe, draws guests from everywhere in the world to Disneyland and Walt Disney World. Over the next ten years, Galaxy’s Edge could bring in over $14 billion for Disney. The opening of these attractions has increased tourism revenue for the parks and surrounding areas.
